I don’t normally review reissues, but this is an album that deserves to be re-discovered, and what better time than now? Hells Headbangers is set to reissue ACID WITCH’s debut album, originally released by one of my personal favorites, Razorback Recordings, in 2008.

For those that haven’t had the pleasure of having your eardrums desecrated courtesy of ACID WITCH, this is a great opportunity to see what the band is all about. ACID WITCH’s music is laden with horror, doom, death and ritualistic blasphemies (everything a growing boy needs, right?). ‘Witchtanic Hallucinations’ is the offering that started it all for the Michigan band, whose catalog now includes two full-length albums and two EPs.

Extensive horror themes define ACID WITCH’s overall sound. The guitar sound is trademark Razorback, for those familiar with some of the label’s other acts (SCAREMAKER, ORLOFF, etc). The riffs are rock solid, and the solos and rolling lead harmonies really drive home the attitude of ACID WITCH. Another fine element of ‘Witchtanic Hallucinations’ that can’t be overlooked is the album art, which is just plain cool. I look forward to receiving my copy of the vinyl reissue, which should be righteous.

Creating a death/doom sound that is as entrancing as it is vile marks one of the greatest successes of ‘Witchtanic Hallucinations’. The album’s ability to harness the best of death, doom, horror and even classic metal is an accomplishment. It has been a few years since ACID WITCH released new material, so hopefully we don’t have to wait too much longer to get some fresh cuts from the miscreant horror mongers.
